Our staff includes licensed civil engineers, certified transportation planners, project/construction managers, and construction inspectors.

In May 2023, KFA joined Lochner, a national transportation infrastructure firm headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, providing planning, environmental, design, construction engineering and inspection, and right-of-way services for surface transportation, rail, transit, and aviation clients. Together, we have more resources and capabilities for delivering innovative solutions and enhancing the quality of life in the communities we serve.

  • Client-Focused: We are collaborative and attentive to the unique needs and goals of each project.
  • Performance-Driven: We are problem solvers dedicated to transforming transportation infrastructure challenges into opportunities for innovation.
  • Community-Minded: We are vested in the work we do as stewards of public funds used to improve the communities we serve.
  • Socially Responsible: We give back to our communities by supporting various charitable organizations and causes.
  • Growth Oriented: We invest in programs to attract, retain, and develop employees so KFA becomes a long-term home for top talent.

KFA is seeking entry-level and early-career Civil Engineers (EITs) to join our growing Stormwater Practice. This role provides the opportunity to work on meaningful stormwater and drainage projects across Texas while receiving mentorship from experienced Stormwater Professionals. You’ll collaborate on technical designs, assist with project delivery, and gain hands-on experience with hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling tools.

What You’ll Do:

  • Contribute to Design Excellence: Perform drainage analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, and plan set production for urban and transportation-related stormwater projects.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work with multidisciplinary teams—including technical staff, surveyors, and utility engineers—to develop high-quality designs and interpret plans from other disciplines.
  • Build Stormwater Expertise: Gain experience working on projects such as stormwater master planning, urban drainage design, roadway and rail H&H design, FEMA floodplain studies, and technical reviews.
  • Learn and Grow: Work under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), receiving guidance and mentorship to develop your skills and work toward professional licensure.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • EIT certification or the ability to obtain an EIT certification within six months of hire.
  • 0–5 years of experience in engineering analysis, design, or related fields.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) or Civil 3D.
  • Experience with HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
  • Familiarity with 2D modeling software such as HEC-RAS 2D, XPSWMM, or InfoWorks ICM.
  • Experience with ArcGIS for spatial analysis.
  • Previous exposure to TxDOT or municipal drainage design projects.
