Civil / Structural Designer

This position is responsible for preparing drawings and sketches using CAD workstations, appropriate design criteria, and technical manuals often working closely with engineers to coordinate designs. The incumbent integrates management skills with expert technical knowledge and understanding of the business to identify technical requirements. He/she applies the highest level of technical skills gained through extensive experience on a broad range of projects and anticipates complex technical issues and coordinates resources internal or external to the team to resolve the issue(s). This position identifies opportunities to improve the technical standards and specifications around which others operate and serves primarily as the technical supervisor for multiple designated subject areas, projects, or business groups.

Responsibilities / Requirements

  • Is recognized and valued internationally as being among the most highly efficient and productive modelers/designers.
  • Regularly attends and completes internal and external training programs designed to improve individual’s understanding and expertise in own engineering technology.
  • Steward for discipline engineering and design concepts through continued communication with engineering staff.
  • Highly focused on quality ensuring conformance with project standards, 4-phase design, discipline design technologies and processes. Is innovative in meeting deliverable deadlines and in adhering to assigned scope of work.
  • Demonstrates highly proficient design automation skills. Is a practitioner of advanced design automation techniques and leads others in adopting those techniques.
  • Proactively participates in regional CAD user’s groups or local CAD organizations.
  • Accesses and applies the Automation eLearning demonstration videos to advance own knowledge and encourages others to do the same.
  • Highly proficient in checking own work and coordinating work with related disciplines.
  • Highly proficient in discipline-specific 3D modeling tools.
  • Takes responsibility for their portion of the discipline’s scope, schedule and budget and delegates accordingly to junior staff. Continued demonstration of reliability and accountability for own work products. Meets or exceeds delivery deadlines.
  • Ability to support work for/in multiple other offices (including TDY).
  • Performs some of the tasks listed in the Project Automation Lead or Lead Designer functions.
  • Serves as a mentor to the project team, junior staff, and junior engineers by assisting with finding answers to technical questions and concerns.
  • Proactive in advancing workflows, systems, and tools within their own discipline; embraces emerging technologies

Preferred Experience

  • High School or Trade School or Associates Degree or equivalent experience; BA or BFA degree strongly preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience preferred.
