Scope of Work:

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for preparing and recording journal entries for month-end close, as well as balancing and analyzing general ledger accounts for US and Canada business.  Additional duties include researching variances between budget and actual for sale and gross profit accounts, reviewing book inventory reports, and preparing monthly key schedules.  This position will have primary responsibility for Canada and Memorial Machine analysis.  Position will work closely with the Assistant Controller to develop operating reports to support the needs of the business units.  This position will also cross train on all positions in Inventory Control to assist as needed. This position will have a requirement of 25%-30% travel.  This position will travel on average 1 week per month.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The Cost Accountant is responsible and accountable for, but not limited to, the following:             

  • Prepare Unbilled Revenue analysis and reports
  • Analyze Business Unit Labor Usage to ensure proper allocation of costs to jobs
  • Prepare GL Account reconciliations for Liability and Prepaid accounts
  • Review and analyze WIP accounts and Profit Reports to ensure proper recording of revenues and costs throughout the month
  • Provide daily, monthly, and ad hoc reporting of sales and gross profit
  • Record monthly journal entries for month-end closing process
  • Assist in Unit Month End Sales and Validations including review of worksheets prepared for each sale
  • Analyzing sales and gross profit accounts during the month-end close
  • Provide support and backup for Parts and Price Uploads
  • Manage audit requests for Inventory Control
  • Responsible for recording and tracking assigned documents relating to the physical inventories
  • Complete all tasks within a timely manner
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor
  • Provide support for branch personnel and management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a Cost Accounting role
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Knowledge of cost accounting procedures and practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Ability to analyze data and draw logical conclusions to accurately process, provide, and implement accounting information
  • Professionalism, dependability, integrity and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude
  • Highly motivated individual with ability to multitask and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
  • Strong organizational skill and attention to detail
  • Advance knowledge of personal computer applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word) to facilitate accounting operations.
