DescriptionAn electrical designer is responsible for creating and designing electrical systems for various projects. They work closely with engineers to develop electrical plans and ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations. They utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts. Additionally, electrical designers may assist in selecting appropriate electrical components and equipment and providing technical support during manufacturing and installation phases. Strong knowledge of electrical principles, codes, and standards is essential for this role.
Essential Responsibilities
- To create specific point to point wiring diagrams and back pan layouts for electrical switchgear, motor control, and power control rooms.
- Design custom/semi-custom products to meet customer electrical specifications.
- Produce print-to-point wiring diagrams from control schemes.
- Check wiring diagrams.
- Gain familiarity with electrical design and circuitry.
- Gain familiarity with industry codes and standards.
- Create basic design drawings with assistance.
- Update drawings per engineering and/or customer markups with direction from engineering personnel and transmit drawings to shop and customer.
- Complete "As Built" drawings in order to learn about drawing packages.
- Attend in house and outside training sessions.
- Learn policies and procedures, work instruction, ISO policies, Safety Rules and Regulations, and vendor products.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Minimum 0-3 years of experience in an Engineering/Designing role.
Skills, Abilities, & Other Requirements
- Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, Excel.
- Ability to order material electronically.
- Basic drafting/CAD skills.
- Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings.
- Able to apply (told by others what it means and which code) NEC, ANSI, and Other as it applies to the day-to-day activity.
Working & Environmental Conditions
Working Conditions
- Temperature controlled working environment. Some outside activities may be required.
- This position may travel out-of-town to attend training and meetings.
- Typical office environment: may experience minor discomfort from extensive use of a computer display and keyboard; travel between buildings on campus and between campuses.
Physical Requirements
- Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
- Sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
