Technical requirements include:
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint);
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, including bates labeling, splitting and combining PDF documents, optimizing and reducing PDF files,Β etc.;
- Advanced knowledge of e-filing systems and procedures in state and federal courts;
- Experience and knowledge working with file-sharing tools to share documents a plus;
- Experience with and a good understanding of the litigation process, as it pertains to the role of a paralegal, including, but not limited to replevins, multi-district litigation, and complex litigation;
- Knowledge of case management software programs;
- Knowledge of the technology and processes of timekeeping, billing, and other administrative tasks;
- Experience working with electronic document management systems; and
- The ability and willingness to quickly adapt to and learn new technology, as needed.
Administrative Requirements include:
- Entering time as required for paralegals, and assisting with entering conflicts checks and opening client files as requested;
- Assisting attorneys with scheduling and calendaring, both in Microsoft and in other docket software programs (experience with Compulaw is a plus);
- Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, Clerks, government entities, and other third parties at the direction of the attorneys;
- Managing the electronic case files;
- Reviewing and analyzing client materials for the purposes of preparing evaluations, summaries, and status reports;
- Drafting routine legal documents such as subpoenas and simple pleadings;
- Preparing trial exhibits, trial notebooks, expert witness notebooks, document indexes, and correspondence;
- Conducting public records searches to find people and personal property;
- Coordinating with other staff members, often across multiple states, to accomplish various, time-sensitive tasks;
- Locating and conferring with expert witnesses, fact witnesses, private investigators, and other resources;
- Coordinating and providing appropriate materials needed to prepare for testimony, and providing assistance to attorneys preparing for trial and administrative support in court during trial;
- Performing assigned legal research using law libraries, electronic databases, and utilizing litigation software or business-specific software when required;
- Assisting with discovery requests, document productions, and settlement processes; and
- Maintaining calendars to ensure compliance with all deadlines.
