Position Description


Responsible for handling all aspects of their assigned cases including but not limited to: 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Production of all motions, orders, discovery, and other documents necessary in the case.
  • Calendar scheduling orders and/or docket control orders in cases.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery, legal forms, and correspondence.
  • File electronically in the Mandated E-filing State, Federal and Appellate Courts.
  • Obtain necessary authorizations and orders requisite medical, employment, school or other personal records as necessary.
  • Schedule meetings with clients and conduct assessments.
  • Act as liaison between courts, clerks, clients, and attorneys.
  • Fill in for other paralegals or administrative staff when needed due to workload, vacation, or illness.
  • Confer with and keep assigned attorney fully informed as to the status of pending and ongoing cases.
  • Responsible for other duties assigned to them by the Division Chief or the assistant public defenders. These duties include, but are not limited to filing petitions, motions, judgments and orders with the District Clerk’s office and producing correspondence.
  • Assist the administrative assistants with answering phones, filing, copying or any other task necessary to the daily operation of the division.
  • Conduct legal research when requested and assist their assigned attorneys with all aspects of trial preparation.

Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited college or university OR

  • Relevant law office experience.

  • Proficient with computer programs Word, Adobe, PowerPoint and Excel. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Self-starter able to work independently without supervision.
  • Proactively seeks additional duties and responsibilities.
  • Organizes and prioritizes multiple projects simultaneously to maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Experience and knowledge of Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure and Evidence.
  • Ability to effectively determine issues related to criminal and civil law.
  • Meets deadlines.
  • Makes effective and efficient use of time in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Is familiar with and adheres to established rules for professional conduct.
  • Willing to learn new duties, approaches, and routines.
  • Communicates with persons inside and outside of the organization in a prompt, positive and professional manner.
  • Recognizes public service as a high calling.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular Full-time

  • Monday Friday | 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.


Salary:

  • Minimum: $60,000 Annually

  • Depends on Qualifications

  • Based on 26 pay periods


Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
