Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day program for adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities, employment services for those with disabilities and four residential homes for individuals unable to live in their own home. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976.

Job Duties:
· Manages and leads assigned classroom.
· Creates and implements student lesson plans and other work activities as per Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Behavior Plan (BIP), and any supplement plan within assigned classroom.
· Collaborates with related service providers to implement Functional Communication Training, OT/PT skills and others as determined by Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD).
· Works with in-house team to provide a highly structured learning environment for students.
· Participates in Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
· Collects data on academics and behavior.
· Completes required special education reports and other documents.
· Ensures ratio compliance at all times.
· Sets duty schedule for each person, including lunch/breaks.
· Assists students with hygiene as needed.
· Prepares classroom for instructional day each morning and cleans and prepares the classroom for the following day each afternoon.
· Monitors and supports student arrivals and assists student dismissals.
· Shows compassion, builds rapport and encourages participants to develop into their full potential.
· Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.
· Certified Special Education Teacher EC-12, a valid certificate that matches the subject and grade level of the assignment is also required.
· Prior classroom experience working with students with Autism and/or with other intellectual disabilities required.
· Ability to manage classroom to meet the needs of the student’s IEP’s, BIP’s, and any supplement.
· Current CPR/AED Certification required.
· Current, valid Texas Driver’s License required.
· Passion to assist those with Autism and intellectual disabilities in order to reach their full potential.

Physical Requirements:
· Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
· Lifting/Moving up to 50 lbs and lifting moving up to 100 plus lbs with assistance.
· Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
· Stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
· Must be able to handle situations that may be stressful at times.
