Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting

Position:  Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting  
Classification: Full-time, Exempt  
Reports to:  Manager, Financial Reporting 
Location: Memorial Dr., Houston, TX

Position Description: 
 
The Staff Accountant will assist the Manager, Financial Reporting, in performing professional accounting work including the examination, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation, and verification of financial records and related duties.  
 

Primary Responsibilities:   

1. Prepare and compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
2. Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities. 
3. Prepare and assist in preparing 990 tax return schedules, governmental surveys, UW reports, cost reports, annual insurance renewal form and nonprofit renewal for Better Business Bureau.  
4. Prepare monthly journal entries. 
5. Maintain the temporary restricted funds and prepare reports for management.
6. Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and ageing reports.
7. Maintain Agency fixed asset55 records and related schedules.
8. Assist in year-end audits, single audit, and fund audits.
9. Support various special projects and process improvement initiatives.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.  

Required Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. 
• Three (3) years accounting experience.  

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Three (3) years Not-for-profit accounting experience.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

• Strong analytical skills.  
• Knowledge of Accounting practices.   
• Mathematical aptitude and organizational skills.  
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.  
• Ability to read and interpret data, information, and documents.  
• Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines.   

Work Conditions:   

• Environment: Hybrid – Office  
• Range of Schedule: Mon – Fri, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  
• Travel: None
