Position Overview:
The Warehouse Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the logistics section of the Office of Operations and Technology Services at Harris County Public Health. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage inventory and warehouse operations related to various supplies, equipment, and materials. The incumbent will work closely with the logistics and operations team to ensure timely and efficient distribution of essential items. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to fast-paced and ever-changing circumstances.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor inventory levels to anticipate potential shortages or surplus and make recommendations for procurement adjustments.
  • Manage material expiration dates and implement FIFO inventory logic.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and small machinery (refrigerators, portable coolers, fans, generators, etc)
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to identify discrepancies and ensure stock accuracy
  • Oversee the day-to-day warehouse activities, including receiving, storing, and distribution of materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of warehouse operations, including receipts, shipments, and inventory logs.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the warehouse environment. 
  • Serves as an additional support for OTS department personnel and functions including Event Support, Courier, Inventory and Supply Chain Coordination.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements


Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Two (2) years of experience in inventory management and warehousing.
  • Proven experience in inventory control, warehouse management, and/or logistics operations.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in inventory management software.
  • Familiarity with medical supplies and equipment is advantageous.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members
  • Ability to work independently, meet reasonable deadlines, and accept responsibility for their own actions.

General Information


Position Type:
  • This is a Grant-Funded | Full-Time position
  • Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week

Work Environment:
  • This job is primarily in the warehouse. Some work responsibilities will require work out in the field such as on-site event support. This role routinely utilizes computers and phones to fulfill work obligations.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to drive and operate a variety of larger-sized vehicles such as cargo vans and box trucks.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs, bending and standing for periods of time.
