The Engineering Technician will interface directly with engineers to provide critical contribution to project goals in the fields of wire harnessing, electrical design, electronics, testing electronic components, sub-assemblies, and products, and developing assembly processes which lead to the final product. The technician will be responsible for the assembly of complex and delicate electronic and cable assemblies for use in robotic vehicles.   

  • Routes, wires, and assembles electronic components using wire layout boards.
  • Operate semi-automatic equipment such as crimp presses, wire twisters and wire strippers.
  • Conduct functional and continuity tests of wire harnesses and cable assemblies using test fixtures.
  • Use of a soldering iron to solder wires to switches or connectors.
  • Assemble and test electronic sub-assemblies and/or test equipment and use common electronics bench equipment and soldering techniques. 
  • Analyze vehicular electrical/electronic systems, schematics, and devices
  • Draft/CADD, design, and develop vehicle wiring-harnesses/systems and its prints
  • Research, interpret, and translate customer technical-documents into manufacturing operations and routings
  • Develops and maintains cable/wire harness detail and assembly designs. Analyzes results and performs design reviews
  • Repair wire harnesses and panels by cutting, sorting, color-coding, measuring, stripping, crimping, soldering, and routing various lengths, types, and gauges of wire, heat-shrink, and other related materials binding wires or cables to form wire harnesses used in aircraft electronic and electrical systems and equipment. 
  • Operate tools and equipment such as wire strippers, crimpers, soldering irons, wire identification and cutting machines, heat guns, and associated tools.
  • locate electrical malfunctions and determine type and amount of rework required to repair each unit.
  • Performs calibration and alignment checks, adjusts, modifications, and replacements as directed and prepares prescribed compounds and solutions. 
  • Maintain safety procedures and reports unsafe conditions to safety officials or manufacturing supervision.
  • All other duties as assigned per contract task orders or as assigned by manager.

Education

  • Associates in Electrical Engineering or Electronics preferred

Experience

  • 2 + years’ experience working with electronics or equivalent applicable degree.
  • Previous VEX, Robotics One or other related experience preferred. 

License, Cert or Registration

  • Proof U.S. Citizenship or authorization / eligibility to work in the U.S.

Special knowledge, skills, & abilities

  • Certified in soldering electrical components and/or experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow wire harness assembly instructions.
  • Familiar with handling and assembly of electrical/electronics, PCB’s, Multi-meters (DVM), and computer-based products with understanding of electrical circuit theory.
  • Working knowledge of basic inspection equipment and able to inspect electronic components and assemblies.
  • Able to read, review, and create good quality written reports in English, including digital photographs, illustrations, spreadsheets, and recorded/charted data from tests performed.
  • Understands how to work safely within a variety of potentially dangerous areas.
  • Highly self-motivated and focused independent/team worker.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Microsoft development suite, Microsoft Office suite, and knowledge of Web and Network architectures.
