Mechanical Engineer

Summary

This Houston, Texas position will participate in a variety of technical and non-technical activities in support of the organization’s mechanical engineering needs including research and development, product and process design and redesign, sustaining engineering, and equipment and product testing.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use advanced, extensive knowledge of products, processes, and product application in the performance of job duties.
  • Perform product research, design, development, and testing.
  • Perform product redesign and enhancement.
  • Perform production and test equipment design, development, and testing.
  • Perform sustaining engineering.
  • Participate in manufacturing process improvement activities.
  • Prepare and present proposals, statements of work, technical reports, etc.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing departments.
  • Perform day-to-day technical and non-technical activities.
  • Assigned to lead and direct engineering projects.
  • Coordinate and direct other members of the engineering staff on assigned engineering projects.
  • May be assigned as a mentor to develop junior engineering staff members.
  • Respond to inquiries or complaints from internal production departments, vendors, and customers.
  • Participate in Company Quality and Safety systems
  • Follow all Trade Compliance policies
  • Perform all other duties requested, directed, or assigned.


Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • BS(or higher) Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • 5 years related mechanical engineering experience (as described above)
  • Knowledge of deployable marine seismic data acquisition equipment


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering documentation, technical specifications, drawings, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge to support design, development, implementation, and operation activities.
  • Ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical designs.
  • Ability to prepare, review and evaluate technical documentation, specifications, test plans and procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical matters.
  • Knowledge of engineering testing - including debugging, design, and DFT (design for test).
  • Knowledge of deployable marine seismic data acquisition equipment
  • Good English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of the organizations and with customers.
  • Self-starter with ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), ERP systems (preferably IFS), and ability to work efficiently with engineering drawing and modeling packages (preferably SolidWorks, PDMPro, AutoCAD 2D).  Mechanical Finite Element. Preferably SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Knowledge of change control practices.  Ability to follow engineering change control processes.
  • Knowledge of Trade Compliance classifications (preferably EAR & ITAR).  Ability to follow Trade Compliance documentation and labeling requirements.  Trade Compliance classification experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees, managers, and customer representatives.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability/willingness to develop/coach/train junior engineers and technicians.

  • Ability to research, comprehend and retain job related information and instructions.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus for extended periods of time on technical/engineering work.
  • Ability to frequently work at a computer performing data entry, calculations, technical documentation and drawings, engineering modeling, and extracting data for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently utilize sophisticated math and engineering problem solving skills/techniques.
  • Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities/tasks.
  • Ability to work in production areas, engineering test areas, and with tools, machinery, and equipment which may include pressure chambers and tensioning devices.
  • Operate test equipment such as multimeters, isolation resistance meters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, or be mobile throughout the facility.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently uses computer and occasionally operates office equipment (phone, printers, copiers, etc.)
  • Frequently communicates with customers, managers, employees, and suppliers. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to lead and/or coordinate the activities of others in the group.
  • Ability to move about facility in the performance of work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet requirements.
  • Must be able to organize work areas.
  • Limited Domestic travel.
