Medical Coding Auditor - Houston, TX


Senior PsychCare is looking for a Medical Coding Auditor with at least 2 years of experience in mental health coding to join our Compliance Team in Houston.

Senior PsychCare provides comprehensive behavioral health services to long-term care patients at their facilities. Our services include therapy, diagnostic evaluation, and collaborative care between therapy and psychiatric teams.


Job Overview:
As a Medical Coding Auditor, you will ensure the accuracy of medical coding and compliance with industry guidelines. This role involves reviewing medical records, auditing coding, and supporting billing processes.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Audit medical records for accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS).

  • Identify coding errors and collaborate with staff to correct inaccuracies.

  • Provide training on coding best practices and updates.

  • Assist in developing and updating coding policies.

  • Work closely with billing, compliance, and clinical teams.

  • Stay updated on coding changes and trends.


Skills & Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.

  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and CMS.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Active certification required. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) are preferred, while CPC-H, CPC-P, RHIA, RHIT, or CCS-P are all generally accepted as well. Other Medical Coding certifications may also qualify.

  • At least 2 years of experience in medical coding/auditing.

  • Mental health and outpatient E/M coding experience is a plus.
