Summary: 

Duchesne Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Theatre Teacher for our Middle and Upper School students. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in theatre arts, experience in PK-12th grade environments (preferably in independent schools), and can demonstrate a commitment to fostering a love for the performing arts. Led by the Goals and Criteria of the Society of the Sacred Heart, this role involves teaching theatre classes, directing school productions, and collaborating with other faculty members to integrate the arts into the broader curriculum. 


Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Teach a variety of theater courses in the Middle and Upper School. 
  • Teach at least one section of our Advanced Theatre production class. Select a show for the class to produce and create a schedule to rehearse during class and after school. Work with the Fine Arts director to identify the technical and design needs for production. Supervise rehearsals and performances and provide feedback and assessment to the students throughout the process.  
  • Direct, attend, facilitate, and participate in concerts, plays, and general Fine Arts productions. 
  • Schedule and lead rehearsals, as appropriate, in preparation for performances. 
  • Plan, organize, and lead activities designed to promote academic, social, and emotional development in a supportive and engaging learning environment. 
  • Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family. 
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests. 
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required. 
  • Evaluate each student’s growth and performance. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to parents. 
  • Prepare and distribute report cards online.? 
Requirements

 

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Fine Arts or equivalent arts training in lieu of a Fine Arts degree.  
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of regular school hours to participate in rehearsals and performances. 
  • State Teaching Certificate is a plus 
  • High level of competency in technology 
  • Experience in a PreK – 12 environments, preferably in independent schools

  • Ability to maintain accurate records. 
  • Treat parents as partners in their child’s education. 
  • Strong people skills to be empathetic to children’s and parents’ needs. 

Upon Hiring 

  • Successful completion of criminal offenders’ record information and sexual offender registry checks. 
  • Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training. 
  • Current CPR certification.
