Basic Responsibility

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for supporting the doctors’ work and actively facilitates patients’ recovery. NP is the primary medical representative of the practice.  He/she should be available for any patient questions or concerns between 8-5 Monday – Friday. He/she should also assist with the work of the MA pursuant to the physicians’ requests. The NP will apply medical techniques and principles under the direction of a physician and will deal with a diverse set of patients offering them care and encouragement.  Your primary responsibilities are to support the Physicians and provide care to patients before, during, and after procedures. Your job duties include performing physical exams, analyzing diagnostic tests, educating patients about treatment options, and assisting with procedures. You need excellent communication skills and compassion for interacting with anxious or worried patients. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are vital skills for NP’s.

 Specific Responsibilities

 The specific responsibilities of the NP encompass but are not limited to the following:

  • Assess patients’ health and their demands and aim to fulfill them as well as possible
  • Issue appropriate prescriptions 
  • Inform physicians about any problems or discrepancies that might arise
  • Acquire and review patient histories identifying abnormal conditions
  • Monitor patients’ progress and keep records of treatments, surgeries or other medical events
  • Prepare patients and conducts examinations and recommends routine procedures (measure blood pressure and temperature, administer injections etc.)
  • Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for the patients
  • Comply strictly with medical care regulations and safety standards
  • Also monitors and adjusts workflows for in-office treatment and procedures
  • Completes all charting for all patient visits
  • Communication of patient results and recommendations in person and also via phone
  • Maintains constructive working relationships with staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts that are encountered in the course of practicing medicine or conducting business
  • Assist with all clinic functions including but limited to answering phones, scheduling appointments, and entering charges.

 Skills Required:

  • Proven work experience as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy, and recovery, while demonstrating a caring and compassionate demeanor
  • Familiarity with advancements in medical technology 
  • Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, flexible, organized, and function well under pressure
  • Detailed knowledge of HIPAA rules and requirements

 Minimum education and work experience requirement:

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree required from approved nurse practitioner program. 
  • Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts. 
  • Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Texas
  • Previous experience in a medical practice with emphasis in Orthopedics highly desired
