POSITION TITLE: OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner

LOCATION: HOPE Clinic - Main

REPORTS TO: OB/GYN Director 

EDUCATION: Require a Graduate degree from an accredited nursing school, such as a Master of Science in Nursing, Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty is preferred and must have a current license to practice as a nurse practitioner in the state of Texas and all other necessary specialty certifications for the role.

WORK EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 2-4 years of clinical work experience in an OB/GYN department setting, FQHC experience is a plus!

SALARY RANGE: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 annually

FLSA STATUS: Salary - Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

The OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to provide medical care and treatment in women’s clinic settings. His/her responsibilities include providing care to women from adolescence through menopause, with a focus on reproduction and gynecology. The NP will order, interpret, and record the results of clinical tests and report results to physicians. The role also prescribes medication and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment as deemed necessary. Additionally, the NP will assess the patient’s condition and may provide treatment using specialist medical equipment.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide OBGYN care according to clinical medical protocols and funding source guidelines;
  • Be flexible to provide coverage at different sites, as needed;
  • Patient rounds to discuss patient's conditions and coordinate care;
  • Conduct pre-natal classes;
  • Counsel and educate patients about preventative measures to avoid illness;
  • Perform comprehensive initial medical assessment and ongoing check-ups for all prenatal patients in accordance with protocols;
  • Perform women's health care examinations and provide basic GYN care, contraceptive and STD services according to clinical protocols;
  • Identify high-risk patients, and refer to an OB/GYN physician or to outside sources in accordance with clinical protocols;
  • Work towards increasing the effectiveness of the OB/GYN program in conjunction with the Medical Director and OB/GYN Director;
  • Assist with quality improvement activities as required and participates in
  • Quality Assurance and Utilization Reviews;
  • Initiate an appropriate assessment of the patient's health status, ranging from focused to comprehensive, depending upon the setting;
  • Obtain patients' health history from interviews of patients and others, and from review of pertinent health records;
  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures and therapeutic procedures, within the scope of practice, including venipuncture; intradermal tests; intramuscular and subcutaneous injections; electro-cardiogram; application of dressings and bandages; administration of medications; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; auditory screening; visual screening; and aseptic techniques;
  • Perform medical procedures including incisions and drainage, wound care, debridement, and suturing of lacerations; and applies and remove casts and traction devices;
  • Collect specimens for and carries out commonly performed blood, urine, and stool analyses and cultures;
  • Interpret health information and establish diagnoses consistent with accumulated data;
  • Formulate treatment plan, ensuring timely provision of necessary health care services, educate and inform patients regarding the nature of the illness and the progress of evaluation and treatment;
  • Analyze accumulated health information and collects additional observational, interview, historical, physical examination, and diagnostic data, modifying treatment as appropriate;
  • Make health record entries which are legible, concise, and timely;
  • Provide primary clinical therapy and treatment of individual and groups of patient (s);
  • Participate in formulating, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and procedures;
  • Maintain records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work;
  • Report to the Director of OB/GYN;
  • Attend on-site/off-site community engagement activities, clinic events, and/or training as needed; 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support HOPE Clinic’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have active & current DEA;
  • Must be compassionate and personable;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other medical staff;
  • Strong leadership skills, self-confidence, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations;
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Exceptional active listening skills;
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate degree from an accredited nursing school, such as a Master of Science in Nursing;
  • Must have a current license to practice as a nurse practitioner in the state of Texas;
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty is preferred;
  • Must have the necessary specialty certifications;
  • 2-4 years of clinical work experience


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual (Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, and/or Spanish with English) is preferred.
  • Above average skills in language ability as well as public speaking and writing. 
  • Must have good transportation and a valid Texas Driver’s license.
