Position Overview:
Crescent Energy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting to join our dynamic accounting team within the upstream oil and gas sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate accounting, with experience around upstream oil & gas, corporate debt, oil & gas hedges, and financial reporting. This position will lead the preparation and review of corporate accounting workbooks and journal entries, reconciliations, and related financial statement footnotes, as well as overseeing the year-end audit, quarterly reviews, and debt covenant compliance packages. The Senior Accountant will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including FP&A, operating subsidiaries, and external auditors, to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Debt and Hedge Accounting:
- Lead corporate accounting for a complex debt structure, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting of debt-related activities.
- Lead corporate accounting for a large and active hedge book, including preparation and review of hedge accounting entries and related financial statement disclosures.
Financial Statement Preparation and Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
- Review and ensure accuracy of financial statement footnotes, including disclosures related to debt, hedging activities, and other key areas of financial reporting.
- Conduct monthly financial analysis of actuals to forecast, providing insights into variances and helping drive corrective actions as needed.
Audit and Compliance:
- Lead the coordination of the year-end audit and quarterly reviews with external auditors, ensuring the timely completion of all audit and review activities.
- Prepare and ensure the accuracy of debt covenant compliance packages, providing insights to senior management regarding compliance status.
- Support the company’s corporate SOX controls, ensuring ongoing compliance with internal control requirements.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support:
- Work closely with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to assist in internal financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
- Partner with operating subsidiaries during the monthly close process, providing support and guidance to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of capital market transaction documentation and assist with capital market activities as required.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of financial reporting and accounting processes.
- Stay up to date on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices within the upstream oil and gas industry, incorporating relevant changes into reporting processes as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or other relevant certifications preferred).
- 4+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years within the upstream oil and gas industry.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, upstream oil & gas accounting, hedge accounting, and debt-related accounting.
- Familiarity with the year-end audit process, quarterly reviews, and preparing financial statement disclosures.
- Solid understanding of debt covenant compliance and corporate SOX controls.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed financial analysis and provide actionable insights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting data and ERP systems (e.g., SAP) preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Big 4 audit experience in the upstream oil and gas industry or energy sector.
