The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for continued development and growth of the book of business.  The UW will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned portfolio, including but not limited to solicitation of submissions, underwriting analysis and documentation, preparing and issuing quotations, negotiating the program, providing service on accounts throughout the year, conducting client stewardship meetings, and marketing to agents/brokers.

Essential Job Functions

This position has clear and distinct accountability for business results for an assigned book of business and: 

  • Focuses on new business production, renewal handling and retention, and account management
  • Manages components of development, growth and profitability for book of business and/or assigned territory and drives accountability for underwriting production goals
  • Underwriting of general liability, site pollution, contractor pollution liability, professional liability, auto liability, workers comp and excess liability
  • Producer development and management
  • Collaborate with Claims, Actuary, Audit, Loss Control, Credit on accounts.
  • Travels to key markets/accounts and remains highly visible in the marketplace
  • Cross marketing with other Starr Divisions

Requirements

  • 4 year degree in finance, engineering/science, business administration, Insurance or similar is preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in underwriting Casualty lines (GL, Auto, WC and XS), preferably with some pollution experience.
  • Proven track record in managing an insurance portfolio
  • Developed relationships with wholesale and retail brokers
