Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will be an integral part of the accounting team and assist in preparing financial statements and provide general ledger support to various company accounting functions. This is an opportunity for an individual to jump start their career in a growing and dynamic company environment. The ideal candidate will be on track to obtain their CPA certification and would be eligible to receive reimbursement for such efforts including, study materials and one test fee. This would be contingent upon obtaining a CPA certification within one year of hire date. Salary and level commensurate with experience. This position is in Houston, Texas, and reports to the VP Controller.

Essential Job Duties

  • Full cycle GL accounting.
  • Prepares journal entries on a daily, weekly and monthly cadence.
  • Prepares balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintains account sub-ledgers.
  • Assists in ad-hoc activities.
  • Assists in internal and external financial reporting.
  • Assists with audits as required for the position.
  • Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) by researching accounting positions.
  • Researches and corrects account discrepancies.
  • Answers inquiries from finance, operations, contracts, and engineering staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Accounting internship experience
  • CPA eligible
  • Strong organization, planning, and time-management skills for multiple priorities
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly expanding environment.
  • Proactive problem-solver with strong critical and analytic skills.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, maintain detailed and accurate records, and prepare clear and concise written reports at all levels of the organization.
  • Will be required to work extra hours during month end close, audits, and as the need arises.
  • Able to travel as needed; travel limited.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of full-cycle GL accounting experience
  • 1 year of public accounting experience
  • Strong desire to improve skills in business intelligence tools. I.e., Power BI, Alteryx.
  • Experience in upstream and/or midstream industry.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Standard office environment.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
